Stephenson Harwood continues international expansion with Madrid office

Corporate | 27/01/2026

Law firm Stephenson Harwood LLP is preparing to launch a new office in Madrid, marking a significant step in the firm’s international growth strategy.

This expansion strengthens both Stephenson Harwood’s presence in Europe and its ability to support clients with interests in Spain, offering comprehensive advice on both domestic and cross-border matters.

“We’re always looking for ways to support our clients grow and succeed in a complex world,” said Eifion Morris, Chief Executive Officer of Stephenson Harwood. “Our expansion into Madrid is an important step in our strategy to provide clients with access to top-tier legal expertise across Europe, the Middle East, and Asia.”

The firm is building a full-service team to establish Stephenson Harwood as a leading international player in Spain, supporting clients across a range of transactional - including corporate, tax, real estate and finance - and dispute resolution matters. The Madrid office will initially focus on two of the firm’s core sectors: Private Capital and Funds, and Energy Transition & Infrastructure.

Joining Stephenson Harwood in Madrid will be the team from leading Spanish boutique firm J Almoguera Abogados (JAA), including partners Jesús Almoguera, Carlos Gonzalez, and Eduardo Vazquez.

“JAA and Stephenson Harwood have enjoyed a long-standing relationship, built on a mutual commitment to quality and client service,” said Jesús Almoguera, founding partner of JAA. “Our expertise in complex litigation, arbitration, and special situations aligns perfectly with Stephenson Harwood’s strengths in these areas, and we share a vision for building a successful practice in Madrid that combines deep local knowledge with international reach.”

Eifion added: “This move is part of our growth strategy, to strengthen our expertise across Europe, the Middle East, and Asia. Unlike many peer firms, we’ve ruled out a merger with a US law firm. Our commitment is to offer our clients and our people an alternative to the transatlantic law firm model.”

The Madrid office is expected to open later this year. Further details will be shared as the office opens.
