SH acts for administrators of the multi billion dollar Nina Wang estate
11 February 2010
Stephenson Harwood is currently acting for the administrators, whilst the litigation is ongoing, for the contested estate of Chinese billionaire Nina Wang.
Until her death in 2007, Wang was reputedly Asia's richest woman. Her multi billion dollar estate is drawn from Hong Kong's largest privately owned property development company, colloquially known as the 'Chinachem Group'.
When Nina Wang died, her close confidant, feng-shui advisor and lover, Tony Chang, claimed that he had been left her entire estate in a will drafted in July of the year of her death. This countered a will drafted in 2002, which left her whole estate to the Chinachem Charitable Foundation Ltd, a foundation that was set up by Nina and her family with a number of charitable aims.
On 2nd February, the court judged that Tony Chan's will was a sophisticated forgery. However Chan vows to appeal and SH will continue to advise the administrators of the estate on managing and preserving the assets of the estate until litigation is concluded. The SH team is being led by Jason Toms in Hong Kong and Stephen Davis in London, assisted by Ben Sigler and Yoke Yee Chang.
