Galina Usorova

Galina is a managing associate specialising in insurance disputes, complex commercial litigation, including civil fraud and asset recovery. Dual-qualified as an English solicitor and Russian advocate, she has played a key role in some of the leading High Court and arbitration matters cases involving marine insurance mandates and cross-border fraud.

Galina is highly experienced in obtaining and defending freezing injunctions, disclosure orders, and other forms of interim relief. She regularly acts for both claimants and defendants in the English High Court and manages complex disputes in foreign jurisdictions, including the BVI, Channel Islands, Cayman Islands, Switzerland, and Cyprus. Galina also advises on sanctions-related matters and disputes.

  • Acting for a leading aquaculture insurer in connection with an indemnity claim arising out of a collapsed fish farm.
  • Acting for a leading insurance broker on a portfolio of own risk / E&O matters

• Dispute resolution

  • Represented a shareholder in a major Russian insurance company in unfair prejudice petition proceedings before the High Court.
  • Acting for a leading European agri-company in respect of multiple arbitrations commenced against it following its decision to suspend payments to Swiss oil trader.
  • Acting for a Swiss oil trading company in a contractual claim for interest under the oilgas supply contracts, Litigation strategy advice.
  • Developed detailed and targeted litigation strategy for a UHNW individual from the Central Asia in respect of a dispute against his business partners in a successful media group.
  • Advised FTSE 250 Investment management company in connection with civil, regulatory and Ombudsman proceedings in the Channel Islands relating to allegedly negligent investment advice provided to retail clients.

• Fraud and asset recovery

  • Acting for a leading commodities trade house in a respect of a multimillion dollar cross border fraud claim.
  • Acting for a prominent Russian businessman in connection with a $600m fraud claim pursued against him and members of his family by two Russian banks.
  • Defended a prominent Kazakh businessman in a $325 million Commercial Court fraud claim brought against him by the LSE listed Kazakh and Manx group of companies,
  • Secured a victory for our clients in relation to a jurisdiction challenge they brought in respect of a series of claims totalling $50 million made against them by a Ukrainian oligarch.
