Peter Bennett advises commodity and energy traders, power and industrial groups on their legal issues across multiple jurisdictions. 

Peter specialisation covers commercial contracts, regulatory issues and high-value and reputational disputes. He has a proven track record in litigation and arbitration. He has represented clients in arbitrations under LCIA, ICC, UNCITRAL and other institutional and ad-hoc arbitrations in England and other jurisdictions and has represented clients at all levels in the English courts. Peter also drafts and negotiates trading and commercial contracts for his sector clients. That Peter is sought out to advise on high-profile matters and underscoring his reputation as a leading practitioner and adviser.

Peter is also a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators.

Experience

  • International Arbitration    

    Representing an international trading group in LCIA arbitration proceedings against a South American supplier of fuel oil alleging repudiatory breach of a long-term offtake agreement.

  • Trade & Commodities Disputes    

    Advising a European trading group in a claim before the LMAA for repudiatory breach of contract for the supply of coking coal and subsequently successfully defending a challenge to Court under S 67 and S 69 of the then Arbitration Act 1996.

  • International Arbitration    

    Advising a European power utility against a Russian coal supplier in LCIA and LMAA arbitration proceedings claiming valid termination of a long terms supply agreement on the grounds of applicable Russian sanctions.

  • Trade & Commodities Disputes    

    Advising a European power utility in an expert determination to decide the value of two non-delivered shipments of Russian coal.

  • International Arbitration

    Advising an international trading group on a US$ 35 million claim before the LCIA for fraud.

  • Trade & Commodities Disputes    

    Advising a European trading group in ICC, LCIA and SIAC arbitrations for claims for repudiatory breach of contract for the failure to deliver shipments of coal.
