Consultant
Lord Harrington is a consultant at Stephenson Harwood, and a businessman and politician. Following a successful 30-year business career, he served as Conservative MP for Watford between 2010 and 2019, and was elevated to the House of Lords in March 2022, in which he serves as a non-affiliated peer.
Between 2017 and 2019 he was the Minister for Business and Industry, and more recently, he was asked to lead a review of the government's approach to attracting foreign direct investment into the UK – ‘The Harrington Review’. The Review engaged with over 200 companies, financial institutions, and sovereign wealth funds to identify how the UK government can build on its strengths and address key barriers to ensure it is the most attractive destination in Europe for inward FDI.
In 2022, Harrington was created a life peer and appointed Minister of State for Refugees, with his ministerial portfolio being in charge of co-ordinating the UK's response to the humanitarian crisis caused by Russia's invasion of Ukraine.
Prior to his career in politics, Lord Harrington worked for many years in the real estate development sector. More recently, he was appointed as Senior Advisor and Chairman of APCO UK, and membership of the international board of APCO Worldwide, a global company offering strategic consultancy and political advice to governments and corporations, and as Senior Advisor to the Investment Banking Group of Canaccord Genuity. He is also non-executive Chairman of Regal Property Group. He is currently chair of manufacturing trade body Make UK. He studied law at Keble College, Oxford University.
