Joanna Katsaouni is an Associate in the London Maritime, Trade & Offshore Finance group at Stephenson Harwood, specialising in ship, offshore, and superyacht finance. She assists leading banks, financial institutions, and shipowners in navigating cross-border finance and refinancing transactions, including debt financings, sale and leaseback transactions, and export-credit backed finance, the purchase and financing of second-hand vessels but also restructurings and enforcements.
Prior to joining Stephenson Harwood, Joanna completed her training at another reputable law firm, where she qualified as an associate in both the shipping finance and shipping litigation teams. Her litigation experience has given her the ability to anticipate issues and concerns that different players may have in the shipping market.
Joanna also completed a secondment with a highly active, top-tier private equity firm in the asset finance sector. This placement strengthened her understanding of the commercial and financial aspects of ship finance transactions.
Joanna is a member of the Stephenson Harwood yacht and superyacht team, where she regularly advises on non-contentious matters. She is also a key member of the JOLCOs team advising financiers on a number of JOLCO transactions.

Acting for a large export finance bank regarding a senior secured export credit facility for the financing of six river cruises.

Advising a Norway-based containership company, on its $70 million revolving credit facility with a leading international bank.

Advising lessors on the sale and leaseback of container vessels, oil tankers and chemical tankers with and without financing.
JOLCO transactions
Acting for financing banks on a number of JOLCO transactions for the financing of Dry-Bulk carriers and LNG carriers.
Sale and purchase
Advising financiers and shipowners on the purchase and financing of second-hand vessels.
Cruise ships
Representing agents of large syndicates in respect of secured and unsecured financings for new-build cruise ships.

Advising an investment fund in respect of the €90 million loan agreement for the financing of a 115m newbuilt yacht.
