Tim is a highly experienced finance lawyer, with more than 20 years' experience advising on distressed financings, complex debt restructurings and insolvency. His expertise covers stressed refinancings and emergency new lending, debt trading, out of court restructurings, the use of composition proceedings (schemes of arrangement and restructuring plans), and formal insolvency proceedings. With an established track-record in leading multi-disciplinary legal teams, he has notable experience devising complex implementation structures, managing stakeholders, and addressing and resolving thorny intercreditor issues.

Tim has extensive restructuring experience across a broad range of sectors (particularly steel, automotive, shipping, real estate, oil and gas, and retail).  He acts for stakeholders at all levels of the capital structure – debtors, directors, bank and bond creditors, distressed investors, sponsors, insolvency officeholders and trustees/agents – and has worked across the full spectrum of restructuring from distressed refinancings through to debt reductions and compositions, and formal insolvency proceedings.

His case portfolio encompasses complex cross-border restructurings as well as domestic cases.

  • Greensill Bank AG (in insolvency proceedings)

    Advising Greensill Bank AG's insolvency administrator on the restructuring/recovery of the bank's lending exposure, in excess of US$3bn, to various companies in the Gupta Family Group Alliance, including on the discontinued restructuring plan proposed by Specialty Steel UK Ltd

  • Queensgate Investments

    Acting for Queensgate on a standstill under and amendments in respect of its GBP 280m senior and mezzanine facilities pending a disposal of the Kensington Forum Hotel

  • Fintyre

    Advising the super-senior RCF lenders in relation to defaults under Fintyre's EUR 300m facilities, the insolvency of its German subsidiaries  and the distressed disposal of its business

  • Interpipe

    Acting for the co-ordinating committee of bank and bond creditors of USD 1.4bn lending to Ukrainian headquartered steel-maker Interpipe and on the (synthetic) equitisation and write-down of part of the debt and restatement of the balance

  • Marme Inversiones SL

    Acting for the senior lenders and hedging counterparties to Marme on the debtor's insolvency and the work-out of senior facilities of EUR 1.575bn and hedging exposure of EUR 710m

  • Sea Trucks

    Advising the debtor and its provisional liquidators on a structured enforcement sale of the group’s major vessels to a bondholder owned newco and an exchange offer for the debtor's USD 575m bonds

  • Qalaa Capital SAE

    Acting for the lenders on the standstill and rescheduling of a USD 300m loan (partly guaranteed by US DFC) to an Egyptian private equity company
