16/10/2024

Law firm Stephenson Harwood LLP has been ranked 28th out of the top 75 employers in the Social Mobility Employer Index 2024. This marks a significant leap of 25 places from last year's ranking of 53rd, underscoring the firm's commitment to recruiting diverse talent, and fostering an inclusive workplace.

The Social Mobility Employer Index, an initiative by the Social Mobility Foundation, evaluates organisations on their efforts to improve social mobility in the short, medium and long term. The index measures progress across several key areas: schools outreach and work with young people; attraction and university outreach; recruitment and selection; routes to the employer; data collection; pay, progression and retention; culture and internal advocacy; and external advocacy.

Feedback from the Social Mobility Foundation particularly highlighted the quality of Stephenson Harwood's approach to data collection, which examines how the firm obtains and examines data to understand its workforce. The index endorses companies that collect data and rigorously analyse it, using the findings to improve their socioeconomic diversity.

"Climbing 25 places in a year is a testament to our dedicated efforts to improve social mobility at Stephenson Harwood," said Katherine Wenbourne, chief people and talent Officer at Stephenson Harwood. "We want to ensure that social background and socio-economic circumstances are not a barrier to entering, or succeeding in a career at Stephenson Harwood. We will continue to build on this momentum, using our data, feedback from our people, and the feedback provided by the Social Mobility Foundation, to refine and enhance the firm's social mobility action plan."

To coincide with its top 30 ranking in the Social Mobility Index 2024, Stephenson Harwood has released its latest video, where three colleagues, Amy, Adam and Sarah, share their stories, including how they got into law, and advice for prospective candidates who are considering entering the profession.
