Partner Gerald Montagu joins Stephenson Harwood’s Tax Practice

Law firm Stephenson Harwood LLP has strengthened its Tax practice with the arrival of Gerald Montagu, who joins the firm’s London office as a Partner.

Gerald brings nearly three decades of experience advising on a broad spectrum of tax matters, spanning transactional, advisory, and contentious work. He regularly advises on direct and indirect tax issues connected with finance, funds, private equity, M&A and corporate reorganisations and has significant experience representing clients in tax disputes and negotiations with tax authorities, including HMRC. His practice extends to projects, energy and infrastructure transactions, real estate taxation and private client matters. He has also developed Brexit-related expertise in foreign direct investment matters, trade remedies, and sanctions.

Gerald is a leading expert in matters of finance taxation and he frequently acts for financial institutions and funds active in the private capital and loan markets, as well as borrowers. Since 2009 he has been general editor of one of the leading practitioner textbooks on finance taxation, ‘Norfolk and Montagu on the Taxation of Interest and Debt Finance’ (Bloomsbury Professional Online).
