Stephenson Harwood advises ABI on the first UK GDPR Code of Conduct for Investigative and Litigation Support Services

Law firm Stephenson Harwood LLP has advised The Association of British Investigators Limited (ABI) on the development of the first ever UK GDPR Code of Conduct. The newly-approved Code of Conduct sets out good practices for personal data processing in investigative and litigation support services.

Under Article 40 of UK GDPR, organisations may create codes of conduct that identify and address data protection issues that are important to their sector, to help businesses maintain GDPR compliance and avoid potential fines for breaches.

The Code of Conduct for Investigative and Litigation Support Services offers private sector investigators a structured framework to ensure GDPR compliance. It helps private investigators and agencies address the complexities of performing thorough investigations while upholding privacy rights and balancing effective data use with legal obligations.

Approved by the ICO on 13 November, this code is the first approved under UK GDPR Article 40.
