He is a qualified GBA lawyer, and among the first batch of lawyers to have acquired the requirements for legal practice in the Greater Bay Area.

Alexander regularly advises officeholders, financial institutions and creditors in distressed situations.  He handles debt disputes, director and auditor claims, actions on antecedent transactions as well as fraud related recovery actions.

Alexander was described by a client as "exceptionally capable with a strong blend of commercial and technical advice”. (GRR 100 2022).  

 

Alexander is a Fellow of INSOL International and holds a specialist qualification in insolvency awarded by the HKICPA. He sits on the Insolvency Law Committee of the Law Society of Hong Kong.  

 

Alexander also helps corporate clients and high net worth individuals in contentious and arbitration matters, notably shareholder disputes, construction claims, defamation cases as well as anti-money laundering issues.   

 

Alexander holds a number of ADR accreditations.  He is a fellow member of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators (FCIArb), an accredited mediator on the panel of the Law Society of Hong Kong, as well as a mediator and arbitrator on the panel of eBRAM (an online dispute resolution centre).

 

Outside his job, Alexander has taken up appointments as members of government tribunals. Currently, he is a panel member of the Resolvability Review Tribunal and a Chairman of the Appeal Tribunal Panel (Buildings).

 

Alexander's background as a civil engineer and his fluency in English, Cantonese, and Mandarin further enhance his ability to serve a diverse clientele across the Greater Bay Area and beyond.

Experience

  • Shanghai Huaxin (Hongkong) Limited Restructuring and insolvency    

    Acting for the liquidators in all aspects of the liquidation.  This includes cross border asset stripping investigations, accounts receivable claims, mortgagee actions and garnishee proceedings, as well as the sale of a portfolio of properties worth over HK$ 3 billion comprising of commercial and residential properties, listed shares and structured products.  Successful in a complex application seeking court approval to handle trust monies of the sale proceeds for the company group.

  • U A Cinema Circuit Limited Restructuring and insolvency    

    Acting for the provisional liquidators in all aspects of the liquidation, in particular on the sale of cinema assets and the tenancies at various cinema premises.

  • Days group of companies Restructuring and insolvency    

    Acting for the liquidators in a series of contentious matters including a professional negligence claim against the auditors, claims against company officers as well as disclosure applications against financial institutions and related parties.  Successful in obtaining the first trial judgment in Hong Kong on fraudulent trading claims.

  • Pure Cypress Limited Restructuring and Insolvency

    Acting for the liquidators of an offshore company in a fraud claim and recovery action of listed shares in Hong Kong against multiple defendants located in both Hong Kong and Mainland China.  Successful in obtaining urgent stop orders and injunctions against the defendants and dealing with securities companies

  • A crypto trading entity  Restructuring and Insolvency

    Acting for the liquidators of an entity which is the Hong Kong arm of a crypto platform. Handled cross border issues, distribution of dividends as well as committee of inspection concerning the entity and its Singapore holding company
  • High Net Worth Individual Commercial litigation    

    Acting for a high net worth individual against a global international bank in a mis- selling claim on derivatives products and accumulators.  Achieved favourable results for the client.

  • Global bank Commercial litigation    

    Acted for a global bank in a massive cross border trade credit fraud of over US$89 million, taking out Mareva injunctions, disclosure and tracing orders and proprietary claims against multiple defendants and appointment of provisional liquidators.

  • Major bank in Hong Kong Commercial litigation    

    Acted for a major bank in its capacity as the trustee of the shares of minority shareholders in a shareholders’ dispute.  Achieved favourable results for the client.

  • Commercial litigation    

    Acted for a TV station in a number of defamation claims as both plaintiff and defendant.

  • International arbitration    

    Acted for a Taiwanese construction company in an international arbitration against a Singapore company in relation to a turnkey construction contract and the appeal proceedings in Hong Kong.
