Andrés qualified as a lawyer in Guayaquil, Ecuador in 2015. Since then, he has built a diverse legal career, working as an associate at leading Ecuadorian law firms. His experience spans commercial, criminal, and employment disputes. 

Andrés holds an LLM in Insurance Law from the University of Southampton. He joined Stephenson Harwood LLP shortly after completing his postgraduate studies in 2019. 

As a Legal Analyst, Andrés advises clients across the international shipping and trade sector. He has significant experience in international arbitration (LMAA, LCIA, GAFTA) and High Court proceedings. While his primary focus is dispute resolution, he is also adept at handling non-contentious matters, including negotiations, tenders, and due diligence. 

During his time at Stephenson Harwood LLP, Andrés has worked with major industry clients such as Maersk, Trafigura, Mercuria, and PDVSA. He is recognised for his well-rounded expertise, responsiveness, and ability to deliver effective solutions for clients.

Experience

  • PDVSA – Complex claim for the delivery of vessels in charterparties with purchase option

    Multijurisdictional matter with arrests and proceedings being brought by the claimant trying to get possession of several vessels owned by PDVSA. This case was particularly challenging due to the practical difficulties caused by the coronavirus pandemic. After an arduous defence and long negotiations, we managed to substantially reduce our client's exposure saving millions of dollars in debt and damages.
