Beatrice advises high-net-worth individuals and families, trust corporations and corporate clients on trusts, estate and succession planning, asset protection, wills, probate and estate administration, corporate restructuring and mergers and acquisitions.

Prior to joining Stephenson Harwood, Beatrice was a counsel in the Hong Kong office of a top-tier PRC law firm and previously practiced at a Magic Circle firm. Beatrice also spent four months on secondment to the Merchant Banking Division of a leading global investment bank.

Beatrice is native in Cantonese, fluent in English and Mandarin, and able to read, write and draft in both Traditional and Simplified Chinese.

    Advised the major shareholder and executive director of a Hong Kong listed company (who is also part of a well-known family business in Hong Kong) on the review of a US$1 billion asset portfolio and holding structure for succession planning and asset protection purposes, including reviewing and conducting due diligence on worldwide assets; reviewing several family trusts under which the client is one of the beneficiaries; considering potential tax impact on the client’s family members with different tax residency; and designing a strategic plan to address a range of issues relating to the client’s family relationships, social media presence, public perception and tax exposures. *

    Advised a well-known PRC entrepreneur on the family’s overseas private investments and the restructuring of offshore family trusts to hold US$3 billion in assets, handled relevant disclosures to the Hong Kong Stock Exchange and addressed associated tax and regulatory issues including Hong Kong stamp duty, PRC income tax and other regulatory compliance and disclosure matters in other offshore jurisdictions. *

    Advised the founder/controlling shareholder of six Hong Kong listed companies on the settlement of separate family trusts to hold the respective listed company shares and the subsequent change of trustees of these family trusts, addressed related Hong Kong regulatory, tax and regulatory disclosure issues. *

    Advised the controlling shareholder of a Hong Kong listed company on the settlement of offshore trust and addressed related Hong Kong regulatory and tax issues. *

    Advised five PRC founders of a to-be listed company on the settlement of pre-IPO trusts (the company was subsequently listed on the Main Board of the Hong Kong Stock Exchange in 2018). *

    Advised JD Capital on its acquisition of 100% of Ageas’ life insurance operations in Hong Kong at a purchase price of over US$1.3 billion. *

    Advised C.P. Pokphand Co. Ltd. on the spin-off of its biochemical business and interests in industrial business by way of a distribution in specie of its holding in Chia Tai Enterprises International Limited, which shares are listed by introduction on the Hong Kong Stock Exchange. *

    Advised Deutsche Bank, HSBC and J.P. Morgan on the proposed spin-off and separately listing of New World Development Company Limited’s interests in certain of its hotel assets in Hong Kong, by way of a listing of share stapled units on the Hong Kong Stock Exchange. *

    Advised Goldman Sachs, HSBC, J.P. Morgan, Deutsche Bank, Citigroup, Credit Suisse, UBS and ten other underwriters on the US$2 billion initial public offering of Chow Tai Fook Jewellery Group Limited and its listing on the Hong Kong Stock Exchange. *
