Clare is an Associate at Stephenson Harwood in the Projects, Energy and Infrastructure team, with particular experience advising clients on construction matters from renewable energy projects to real estate development.  

Clare has collaborated with clients across various sectors, including nergy and real estate, and has advised on construction, redevelopment and infrastructure projects. Clare’s expertise is particularly valued in the renewable energy sector, where Clare has acted predominantly for private developers and funders in respect of construction projects relating to different renewable energy technologies including battery storage and solar. Clare also has experience advising public bodies and companies, including a major water provider in the UK, which highlights her ability to adapt to the needs of each individual client. 

Clare has acted on significant national projects in the UK, including advising on and completing construction and operation contracts for the largest battery storage project in Europe on behalf of an investment firm. Clare’s work on complex matters showcases her efficiency and her ability to engage with all parties in order to benefit her clients and their projects.

Clare has experience drafting and amending JCT standard form contracts for real estate transactions. She is involved in real estate due diligence, including reviewing building contracts, bespoke professional appointments and subcontracts, and advising on relevant risks to clients.

Experience

  • Investment fund    

    Advising an investment fund (acting as Employer) on the procurement of preferred contractors and assisting in completing construction and operational contracts for battery storage projects at two sites in Scotland.

  • Funder

    Conducting a due diligence review of bespoke EPC contracts and battery supply agreements for a portfolio of solar and battery assets.

  • National retailer    

    Conducting a due diligence review of construction and ancillary contracts based on the JCT Design and Build 2016 Edition for a prospective tenant of a warehouse in Bristol.

  • Developer    

    Drafting and negotiating a FIDIC-based EPC contract in respect of a financed solar project.

  • National developer    

    Assisting with the construction aspects of a major development in South Wales, including completing bespoke consultant professional appointments and reviewing collateral warranties and letters of reliance.

  • Financial institution

    Drafting JCT forms of contract (Design and Build, Minor Works and Minor Works with Contractor's Design) and schedule of amendments relating to refurbishment works at the client's London headquarters.
