Evans has extension experience in both ad hoc arbitration and institutional arbitration, regularly acting for shipowners, P&I Clubs, shipyards and charterers. He assists state-owned enterprises and private enterprises in international trade disputes as well.

His recent cases include London arbitrations relating to grounding at port, off-hire disputes and new-building disputes.

Experience

  • London Arbitration

    Acting for a major Chinese shipyard in ad-hoc London arbitration concerning disputes arising from SBCs for the construction of 10 vessels. The shipowner cancelled the contract, alleging breach by the shipyard and claiming damages of over USD $830 million. The case involves multiple legal and factual issues, including the issuance of guarantees, force majeure, and construction progress.

  • Acting for client in multi-jurisdictions arbitrations

    Acting for a natural person in investment disputes arising between the actual investor and the nominee investor regarding who is the true party and beneficiary under the investment agreement. The nominee investor initiated HKIAC institutional arbitration seeking profit distribution from the investment fund. We act for the natural person requesting to join the proceedings as an additional party. The matter also involved court proceedings in Hong Kong and United States. The value of dispute is approximately USD $85 million.

  • Acting for client in London arbitration

    Acting for owners in London arbitration in relation to bareboat charter dispute arising out of late redelivery and the condition of vessel.

  • Acting for client in London arbitration

    Assisting two companies incorporated in mainland China in applying for asset attachment in Dubai for on-going CIETAC arbitrations and obtaining an attachment order in the sum amount of around US$1.8 million.
