Ignacio is an Associate advising clients on complex litigation, arbitration, restructuring and insolvency in Spain.
He acts for investment funds, financial institutions, companies and entrepreneurs in high-value and cross-border disputes. Ignacio’s experience includes corporate and shareholder disputes, takeover litigation, fund-related disputes, litigation finance, debt recovery, international arbitration, including ICC proceeding, and antitrust damages claims.
Prior to joining Stephenson Harwood, Ignacio developed his career at J. Almoguera Abogados and gained earlier experience at a leading Spanish law firm. He was admitted to practise in Spain in 2022.
Ignacio guides clients through all stages of a dispute and works closely with clients and partners on legally complex and commercially sensitive matters, helping to identify practical solutions and protect clients’ interests in demanding proceedings. He is fluent in Spanish and English.
International ICC arbitration
Acting for a European investment fund in an ICC arbitration seated in Luxembourg concerning a dispute between investors in an investment vehicle, including written submissions, hearing preparation and post-hearing briefs.
Takeover litigation
Supporting a leading international hedge fund in judicial challenges connected to the takeover of a Spanish listed company, including proceedings before the Spanish courts and the Supreme Court.
Spanish leading fund
Advising funds and investors on disputes arising from restructurings, including strategies to protect creditor positions and assess litigation options in commercially sensitive situations.
European debt recovery
Acting for an international debt recovery fund in a dispute with a former Spanish servicer, involving opposition to a European order for payment procedure and cross-border issues.
Litigation funding
Advised a hedge fund considering its first litigation funding investment in Spain, including analysis of several claims, proceedings and complex legal issues.
Insolvency proceedings in the hospitality sector
Advised a hedge fund in a major restructuring involving syndicated and bilateral financing of a Spanish hospitality company, successfully obtaining court approval of a non-consensual restructuring plan and change of control in favour of the client.
Financial restructuring litigation
Acted for an investment fund challenging corporate resolutions connected to the restructuring and refinancing of a large European apparel group, including cross-border issues.
Cartel-related investment
Acting for a global investment management firm in large-scale court proceedings against the three major oil companies in Spain, seeking compensation for damages suffered by thousands of carriers arising from fuel price-fixing practices. Successful outcome in the two claims decided at first instance.

Advising a family office on a substantial investment in antitrust damages claims, including the assessment of the merits of the case.
International hedge fund
Advised an international hedge fund on Spanish securities and market abuse law, helping assess and mitigate potential litigation and regulatory risk relating to a Spanish listed company.
