Ivan Valkov

Ivan is a hard-working, dispute resolution lawyer with significant expertise in high-value litigation and arbitration. Trusted by industry leaders, he works alongside Alex Davis to advise the London Market on complex, high-value losses. 

Ivan has an established track record in handling complex contentious matters, with particular expertise in disputes arising under Hull & Machinery (H&M), War, and Mortgagee Interest Insurance (MII) policies. He acts for both international and domestic clients in High Court litigation and arbitration proceedings, including those under LMAA, LCIA, ARIAS, and DIFC rules. Ivan also regularly advises (re)insurers on claims involving political risk and property insurance.

  • Acted for Underwriters in respect of a dispute arising under a marine cargo stock throughput policy.
  • Acted for Underwriters in respect of the loss of a superyacht.
  • Acting for Underwriters in respect of the total loss of a jack-up oil rig.
  • Acted for Underwriters in respect of coverage under an MII Policy following the non-payment under H&M and War policies.
  • Acting for Underwriters in respect of coverage under a complex reinsurance facility, following the collapse and total loss of an offshore wind turbine 

• Dispute resolution

  Acted for a client in respect of D&O insurance policy and potential claims brought against them in a fraud case. 

  Acting for a client in respect of a claim following the transit of a hurricane over an oil facility. 

• Commercial litigation

  Acted for various clients in respect of obtaining and/or defending interim injunctions such as freezing and search orders, Norwich Pharmacal relief, third party disclosure orders.
