Jesús Almoguera is one of Spain’s most recognised arbitrators and dispute resolution lawyers, with over 30 years’ experience advising on complex disputes and high-stakes M&A transactions.
Jesús acts as arbitrator and counsel in domestic and international arbitrations, particularly in disputes involving M&A (purchase price adjustments, R&W, shareholders’ agreements), joint ventures, corporate, energy, construction, hotels, and financial instruments. His clients include leading international hedge funds, global banks and major corporations.
His involvement in many of Spain’s most significant M&A and private equity transactions and corporate restructurings of the last 25 years gives him a distinctive perspective in commercial disputes. As arbitrator and counsel, he combines a deep understanding of the legal issues with a practical appreciation of the commercial and financial realities underlying each case.
Jesús is valued for his ability to understand sophisticated financial and corporate structures, identify the decisive issues quickly and approach disputes with commercial judgement and procedural efficiency.
He is President of the Corporate Arbitration Commission of the Spanish and Ibero-American Arbitration Club (CEIA).
He was founder and senior partner of J. Almoguera Abogados, a Spanish disputes boutique that became Stephenson Harwood’s Madrid office. Before that he launched the Spanish practice of a leading international law firm and headed its corporate and disputes departments for 13 years.

Sitting as arbitrator in an international ICC arbitration concerning a complex post-M&A dispute involving the determination of the purchase price of a company and alleged breaches of certain representations and warranties under a share purchase agreement.

Acting as counsel for a group of major international hedge funds and European banks in several high-stakes court proceedings in Spain relating to the enforcement of sponsor guarantees granted in connection with toll road projects in Spain.
