Matt advises a variety of clients, which include corporates, real estate investment funds, family offices and HNWIs.  

On real estate investments and projects, Matt acted for Firethorn Capital on the £550mn sale of its UK real estate logistics portfolio to Cain and for Schroder UK Real Estate Fund on their sale of Kings Mall, London to Ingka Centres for £170 million. He also advised Tristian Capital on their £166 million acquisition of Stirling Square in Central London from WELPUT and Civis PFI/PPP Infrastructure Fund on its acquisition of stakes in University of Sheffield and Bradford school projects from HICL Infrastructure for £50mn. 

His recent energy transaction experience includes representing Siem (the largest shareholder of Subsea7) on the merger of Saipem and Subsea7 under the EU merger regulation to create a Milan and Oslo listed EUR20bn global leader in energy services. He also advised V Group, one of the world's largest managers of vessels deployed within the offshore and renewable energy markets, in relation to its USD650mn disposal by Advent International to a STAR Capital led consortium. Represented management on their buy out of Abellio from Nederlandse Spoorwegen. Abellio (now Transport UK) is a major UK transport operator leading industry efforts in expanding the use of zero and low emission buses and utilising smart energy management technology across UK stations. 

Matt is the Corporate department leader for Stephenson Harwood’s energy transition sector of focus.

  • Siem Industries 

    Advised Siem Industries (the largest shareholder of Subsea7) on the merger of Subsea7 and Saipem under the EU Merger Regulation to create a global leader in energy services listed on the Milan and Oslo stock exchanges. 

  • V Group 

    Advised V Group and its private equity owner Advent International in relation to V Group's sale to a consortium led by STAR Capital.

  • Citic Europe Holdings A.S. 

    Advised Citic Europe Holdings A.S. on the €250 million sale of Invia Group.

  • Firethorn Trust 

    Advised Firethorn Trust on the sale of its UK logistics assets to Cain International for £550 million.

  • Edward Whitley OBE 

    Advised Edward Whitley OBE on the sale of Whitley Asset Management to Cazenove Capital, a subsidiary of Schroders.

  • Abellio UK 

    Advised the management of Abellio UK on the complex shareholders’ agreement governing the relationship with Nederlandse Spoorwegen (NS) following the management buy-out of NS’s UK train and bus operations; together with the investment and shareholders’ agreement governing the acquisition vehicle.

  • Civis PFI/PPP Infrastructure Fund 

    Advised on the acquisition from InfraRed Capital Partners of the investment vehicles for purpose-built student accommodation for the University of Sheffield.

  • Tristan Capital Partners 

    Advised on the £166 million acquisition of a central London office building from WELPUT. We have further advised Tristan Capital Partners on a number of funds across all real estate sectors.

  • Schroders Real Estate Fund 

    Advising the Schroders Real Estate Fund (a PAIF) on the acquisition of the Hammersmith shopping centre and its recent subsequent sale to IKEA in December 2019, for £135+ million.
