Roderick is a Managing Associate in the Maritime, Trade and Offshore group at Stephenson Harwood and advises international banks, funds, institutional investors, and shipowners on multi-faceted asset finance and leasing transactions. His extensive experience spans syndicated and state-backed secured loans, private placements, sale and leaseback transactions, and specialist advisory work, making him a sought-after advisor in the maritime and offshore sectors.

Roderick has a breadth of experience navigating complex intercreditor arrangements, corporate restructurings, loan portfolio transfers and a range of structured maritime finance transactions. This diverse experience, together with the significant time he has spent on secondments with two international banks and a marine insurer, ensures that clients benefit from strategic, commercially-focused advice tailored to their unique needs. 

Known for his methodical approach, Roderick is valued for his ability to deliver commercial solutions on some of the most innovative transactions in the maritime and offshore space. He is committed to advancing sustainable finance in the maritime industry and has worked on the financings of methanol-powered container ships, ammonia-ready Ultramax carriers and the award-winning "Greenbox" project.

  • MPC Container Ships – Advising on award-winning "Greenbox" project

    Advising MPC Container Ships on the pre- and post-delivery financing of two innovative dual-fuelled container ships that can operate on "green" methanol and battery storage systems; resulting in emission reductions of up to 95%. The financing was awarded the 2025 Project Finance Deal of the Year by Marine Money. 

  • Gearbulk – Sustainability-linked fleet refinancing

    Advising a global marine transportation group on a US$328 million refinancing project to refinance a total of 25 vessels, including open-hatch crane vessels and a floating terminal. This included the group's first sustainability-linked facility by reference to certain key performance indicators.

  • SBM Offshore – FPSO sales

    Advising SBM Offshore on the sale of two Floating Production Storage and Offloading vessels (FPSOs) to Exxon Mobil Corporation. Advising on bespoke sale and purchase agreements.

  • Acting for global container shipping group on groundbreaking cooperation  agreement 

    Advising one of the world's biggest container lines on a groundbreaking cooperation and operational agreement for an industry leading global trade network.

  • Specialist advice on financing of next-generation wind turbine installation vessels

    Providing specialist advice to an international offshore wind group on financing the acquisition costs of next generation wind turbine installation vessels.

  • ECA-backed pre-and post delivery financing 

    Acting for a large syndicate of banks on a US$520 million term loan and revolving credit facility to provide post-delivery financing for six new containerships constructed in South Korea. 

  • Alternative capital - Bond financing of two cruise ships

    Acting for an alternative capital provider on the €36 million bond financing of two cruise ships. The financing was structured by way of an issuance and purchase of two series of secured notes, each of which is listed on the Cayman Islands Stock Exchange.

  • Green loan facility for four "ammonia ready" Ultramax vessels

    Advising a European financier on a US$65 million secured green loan facility to a Middle Eastern based shipping group to finance the acquisition of four 'ammonia ready' Ultramax vessels fitted with solar panels, wind turbines and batteries for energy storage.
