We are committed to reducing the environmental impact of our business operations, supporting our clients to navigate the energy transition, and applying our legal skills to pro bono work that addresses climate change challenges and inequities in wider society.
Clients
The energy transition comes with both opportunities and challenges. Our cross-practice international team of lawyers at Stephenson Harwood can help you navigate these challenges and make the most of the opportunities no matter where you are on your journey.
We have aligned ourselves to three integral pillars of the energy transition that will help businesses chart a clear path to progress:
Pro Bono
We dedicate significant pro bono resource to causes and organisations that protect the environment and support those who are impacted by climate change. Examples of our work include:
- Legal Response International (LRI): Through its partnership with LRI, the firm advises some of the world's most climate-vulnerable countries during and between COP meetings. This enhances access to justice in climate negotiations and supports global decarbonisation efforts.
- Plastic Odyssey: The firm advised Plastic Odyssey, an initiative tackling plastic pollution worldwide, which developed a self-sufficient boat to traverse the world providing education on plastic recycling. Our Paris and Singapore offices provided legal guidance on corporate, shipping, tax, and employment matters.
Environmental Sustainability in our operations
Over the last few years, with our restructuring of international offices, we are working to align our UK practices globally. We have just published our first global footprint, and along with our energy and sustainability partners, are setting our new interim targets on our path to Net Zero.
Alongside this, we are reviewing all our operations and departments for their effect on our carbon emissions, and identifying a suite of changes to minimise our impact. With parts of our clients’ Scope 3 emissions being our responsibility to minimise, these changes will ensure that Stephenson Harwood is a positive force in our clients’ drive to Net Zero.
We currently report through Carbon Disclosure Project (CDP) and EcoVadis so our clients can be reassured of our drive to becoming a sustainable partner.
Some of our efforts so far can be seen in the documentation below.
