Bryony Roy is a seasoned competition law specialist, trusted by clients active in a range of sectors, including technology, financial services, pharmaceutical, retail, and manufacturing. Her expertise spans the full spectrum of UK and EU competition law.

She has particular experience guiding clients through global cartel investigations, where she provides strategic advice from internal audits to immunity and leniency submissions, settlement discussions, the preparation of defences and subsequently, to appeals to the European courts.

Bryony also has significant experience advising global corporations and private equity firms on complex cross-border mergers and joint ventures, securing regulatory approvals and advising on compliance.

Her clients benefit from her ability to navigate complex regulatory landscapes, whether advising on abuse of dominance issues, market investigations, or assessing horizontal and vertical commercial agreements to ensure their compatibility with the competition rules. Bryony's approach is both analytical and pragmatic, offering clear guidance that enables clients to make informed decisions and achieve successful outcomes.

  • Advising a global bank - EC cartel investigation

    Advising on applying for leniency, settlement negotiations and private damages actions, and acting in appeals before the European Courts

  • EC Phase II merger clearance

    Advising a major US corporation on all non-US filings relating to an acquisition of a competing business in the technology sector (complicated by a parallel attempted acquisition in the sector).  The transaction was cleared by the EuropeCEMAC clearance for a global energy companyan Commission in Phase II

  • CEMAC clearance for a global energy company

    Advising a global energy company on all competition-related aspects of two complex inter-conditional transactions, involving two merger filings to CEMAC and an approach to the Competition Regulatory Authority of Angola

  • CMA merger clearances

    Advising clients on UK merger control and securing clearances. Examples include securing Phase I clearance in relation to the acquisition by a US analytics company of a software solutions provider, and for a major food manufacturer in relation to its acquisition of a competing food business

  • Abuse of dominance in the healthcare sector

    Providing strategic advice to clients adversely impacted by the actions of dominant suppliers engaging in abusive conduct, including refusal to supply and excessive pricing / margin squeeze

  • Complex supply arrangements

    Advising a global manufacturer in the food and beverage supply chain on  potential abuse of dominance issues and anti-competitive restrictions arising in commercial agreements in its supply chain

  • Advising clients involved in EC cartel investigations

    Acting in the European Commission's first settlement case (DRAMS); Acting for immunity and leniency applicants in various other cartel investigations conducted by the European Commission

  • Acting for complainant

    Advising a third party on an intervention against an acquisition in the security software sector and securing commitments at Phase 1 to address the concerns raised
