Pia is part of our decarbonisation team and assists clients with regulatory advice and contractual solutions to support the transition to net-zero. She has provided research support for advice on the EU Emissions Trading System (EU ETS), FuelEU Maritime, EU Renewable Energy Directive, the IMO’s Net Zero Framework, and the voluntary carbon markets. She has also assisted in providing shipowners, charterers, shipmanagers and fuel producers with contractual advice for integrated compliance strategies and more ambitious emission reduction pathways.
In addition to her role as Legal Analyst, Pia is a senior lecturer in private law, teaching maritime law, cross-border commercial law, and contract law. Her academic expertise lies in the intersection of contract law and sustainability, with her research exploring how contracts can be leveraged to drive decarbonisation in maritime transport. Her published work spans topics including green finance frameworks, sustainable supply chain finance, green shipping contracts, climate clauses, polar shipping, and climate litigation.
Pia is also a qualified attorney in South Africa and an Academic Research Fellow of the Middle Temple. Her dual role allows her to apply her research in practice, providing clients with a critical and comprehensive assessment of the legal challenges they face.

Advising in relation to the uptake of biofuels and drafting clauses for time charterparties and fuel supply agreements.
