Jamie specialises in advising clients who are under investigation by the UK's Competition and Markets Authority for alleged cartel activity, abuse of dominance, and other competition law infringements. He also provides strategic advice on competition compliance, helping clients achieve practical, business-focused solutions. Additionally, Jamie delivers targeted competition training, covering topics such as dawn raid response and market investigations.

Jamie acts on complex, high-value group litigation, including representing seven of the UK's leading supermarkets seeking damages worth nearly £1 billion (including interest) arising from an alleged cartel in the market for farmed Atlantic salmon. He has also worked on the merchant interchange fee litigation against Visa and Mastercard, acting for more than 1,900 corporate claimants.

Jamie advises on purely transactional competition matters, including merger control and foreign direct investment screening regimes. He is particularly skilled at navigating transactions that fall within the scope of the UK’s National Security and Investment Act.

Jamie trained in the firm's London office. During his training, Jamie gained further regulatory experience representing companies and individuals concerned with investigations commenced by government agencies, such as the Serious Fraud Office, Financial Conduct Authority, and environmental regulators. He also has experience acting on internal investigations.

Experience

  • Representing an international bank before the European courts in relation to a cartel infringement decision issued by the European Commission

    Assisted in drafting an appeal to the Court of Justice of the European Union, and managed the preparation of all supporting documents required to submit the appeal. Conducted extensive research on relevant precedent and developed arguments grounded in EU law to strengthen the appeal.

  • Acting for an individual concerned with investigations brought by the Competition and Markets Authority, the European Commission, and other international regulators for alleged cartel activity

    Conducted extensive reviews of underlying evidence to identify relevant materials and assess the extent of potential antitrust risk. Helped develop strategy and assisted in supporting the client prior to interviews before regulatory authorities in the UK and abroad. Coordinated with international counsel across multiple jurisdictions to ensure a consistent global strategy.

  • Competition compliance training for global banks and transportation companies

    Provided dawn raid response training to one of the world's largest transportation companies, and market investigation training to leading global and UK banks.

  • Acting for seven leading UK supermarkets seeking damages of close to £1 billion (including interest) for losses arising from an alleged cartel in the market for farmed Atlantic salmon

    Recent success in the Competition Appeal Tribunal, defeating the defendants’ applications challenging the Tribunal’s jurisdiction and seeking to strike out certain claims. Jamie was a key member of the team, helping to prepare case materials, evidence, witness statements, and supporting documents.
    Jamie also played a central role in the service workstream, securing timely and effective service on Norwegian-domiciled defendants through innovative and strategic means.

  • Frequent merger control, foreign direct investment, and National Security and Investment Act reviews for mergers and acquisitions

    Regularly conducts multi-jurisdictional merger control and foreign direct investment screening reviews in transactions requiring analysis in over 40 jurisdictions. Particularly experienced in identifying transactions that require analysis under the UK's National Security and Investment Act and preparing filings under this regime.
