In the private wealth sector, she has extensive knowledge in cross-border structures, trust and estate planning, and business succession planning. Her practice centres on handling complex issues including corporate restructuring across multiple jurisdictions and establishing trusts for succession planning and compliance with a view to de-risking and mitigating tax exposure. Joanna forms strong relationships with her clients. She is attentive, dedicated and can offer innovative solutions.

Joanna has been recognized as a Trust and Estate Practitioner (TEP). Joanna was elected as a committee member of the China branch of the Society of Trust and Estate Practitioners (STEP). She created localized course manuals and learning materials of the Company Law (STEP Advanced Certificate), and she was appointed as a tutor for the STEP Company Law &Practice workshop.

She is an alumna of the China Europe International Business School (family office program).

    Providing strategy planning to the first-generation of the high-net-worth families, including corporate restructuring and tax planning, trust planning and worldwide estate planning. Representative clients include UBOs of listed companies and Chinese commercial property developers.

  • Advised an UBO of a listed company on his succession planning

    Advised the client on the reorganization of the family trust, and establishment of a Private Trust Company structure in the U.S.

  • Acted for various listed company founders on the offshore family trust

    Pre-IPO and post-IPO family trust planning, compliance advice under the PRC law and PRC tax advice.

    Provided the PRC tax advice in relation to family trust structure to trustees.

  • Private banks and family offices

    Advised private banks, family offices and wealth management institutions on certain private wealth matters, including, asset protection. estate planning, tax advice and trust planning, and establishment of family offices.

  • Advised a global leading new material manufacturer on its acquisition of a local factory in China

    Advised the client on its deal structure strategy, legal due diligence, transaction documentation and closing matters.

  • Advising a global new material manufacturer in Europe on its IP licensing deal in China

    As a PRC legal counsel, Joanna collaborates with Stephenson Harwood's team in London and Singapore.  Joanna's holistic approach to addressing multi-jurisdiction legal, tax, and cultural challenges provided the client with robust, actionable solutions. The project's success has significant implications for international technology R&D collaboration.

    Advised our client on its strategic expansion throughout the Asian market, including market-entry planning, regulatory compliance, and cross-border structuring. Shanghai Kumho Sunny Plastics Co. Ltd. is a joint venture between a Korean listed company and Chinese founder team. It is one of the top 3 plastics modification company in China.
